Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1356. We have three Collective Agreements as Local 1356, 1356-01, and 1356-02. The membership is comprised of the full-time and part-time workers of York University the Local website is at 1356.cupe.ca This Blog will include Local information and information garnered from sources other Universities, Colleges, Post Secondary/Tertiary Education and news sources supplying information.
The deal gives the workers a salary increase of 12.5 per cent over four years and other benefits. Paving the way for the deal were voluntary discussions at the provincial level between trustees and the union before the collective agreement expired on Aug. 31, 2008.

According to a report issued by the University of Colorado Denver (UCD), 98 percent of downtown Denver buildings use janitor companies covered by a union. Carnation Building Services (CBS) is one of the few companies that don’t.
