Summer Intern Jobs at the CLC

The Canadian Labour Congress has a summer intern vacancy in its
International Department.

Mission:
To help organize an international conference on Labour and AIDS.

The successful candidate will work with and report to the National
Representative responsible for the Labour Forum on AIDS, in the
International Department.

We are looking for someone who:

* is practical and efficient;
* has experience in event organizing or issue-based campaign work;
* deals helpfully with people by phone, e-mail and in person;
* shows initiative and takes instruction, as the situation requires;
* manages multiple tasks, works well under pressure, meets deadlines and
works cooperatively with unions and staff;
* is familiar with issues related to the labour movement, international
development and/or HIV/AIDS;
* is able to integrate a feminist, internationalist and anti-racist
working class perspective in the work;
* is able to travel to Toronto Aug 10th - 14th (approximately), to attend
the Conference;

Ability to communicate well in English (spoken and written, including for
the website) is required. Capacity in French and/or Spanish is a huge
asset.

The sucessful candidate will be available to work from the CLC Headquarters
office building, based in Ottawa, for 8 weeks (from June 26th - Aug 18th,
approximately).

Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will be under the responsibility of the
International Director and work in cooperation with other staff members.
The duties will include:

* responding to on-going email enquiries and other correspondence;
* coordinating with assigned support staff and assisting CLC staff
members responsible for project administration duties;
* maintaining communications with regional, national and international
union bodies as required;
* final production steps and co-ordinating of Labour Forum materials and
the banner being produced;
* web research and writing for AIDS section of CLC website;
* assisting the CLC Communication Department in maintaining the CLC
website and preparing a press conference;
* organizing research launch and circulation to affiliates;
facilitating final logistical arrangements and managing last minute hic-ups
(in collaboration with responsible CLC staff);
* ensuring that international guests will be met on arrival and provided
with the required assistance;
* liaising with International AIDS Society's local host and international
secretariats as required;
* undertaking any reporting requirements as they arise;
any other related duties, as required.

The weekly salary for this 8-week position is $500.00.
