Australia's Proposed Non-Compulsory Student Union Membership

Students and staff at Australia's largest university will boycott classes and stage rallies this week in protest against the federal government's proposed voluntary student unionism (VSU).

A proposal of this nature would potentially reduce the activities that Student Unions contribute which directly assist the Universities throughout the year, including the Orientation at the start of the school year, through to the Additional Insurance Coverages that have been arranged through them for all students, and of course the balancing of the political powers between students, university administration, and the governments. The losses that this "savings" would create would heavily outweigh the so-called "savings".
